NEW HAVEN FIRE DEPARTMENT APPOINTS NEW ASSISTANT CHIEF

(9/17/2010) NEW HAVEN- The New Haven Fire Department today announced the appointment of Patrick Eagan to the position of Assistant Chief of Administration. This appointment was ratified by the City’s Fire Commission at an 8 a.m. meeting today. Eagan is filling the position left vacant following the retirement of former Assistant Chief Ronald Dumas in June of this year.

"It's an honor to be selected by such a distinguished and respected fire professional as Chief Michael Grant to be the Assistant Chief of one of the greatest fire departments in the country,” said Eagan.

Eagan, a 15-year member of the department who spent the last 10 serving firefighters as president of their union, was selected by a panel that included Chief Michael Grant, Chief Administrative Officer Robert Smuts and Acting Director of Human Relations Stephen LiBrandi. Eagan will be sworn in next Tuesday by Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. Eagan will earn an annual salary of $104,471.

“Pat has been a leader and contributor who has a demonstrated track record of putting the safety of New Haven’s residents and the members of the New Haven Fire Department first,” said DeStefano. “He will make a terrific Assistant Chief.”

“The Assistant Chief for Administration has the responsibility, under the direction of the Chief, for budgetary matters, personnel matters including discipline and planning matters regarding the direction of the department,” said Grant. “Pat is extremely knowledgeable and is the most qualified individual to be successful in this job.”
